Dinner With Friends

This album is powered by BubbleShare - Add to my blog

One of the best things about our "life on the road" is that we get to visit with friends and family all over the US. Tonight we went to dinner with Brian and Lisa Bailey and their children. We had a wonderful time!

Bad news....our truck is sick! Good news....our company is putting us up in a motel for the weekend. I like to bargain shop for my motels and I found a great deal on Priceline. We are enjoying a suite at the Sheraton in Birmingham, AL.
Hopefully, the service center can get us up and running first thing Monday morning. But, until then we'll just have to suffer it out in this beautiful room. :)

FINALLY We Have Internet!!!

I have been going through major withdrawl this week. I went almost 5 whole days without being able to connect to the internet! It almost makes me wish for the Sprint Wireless Connection. But, I have to stop and think, "what would Dave Ramsey say?" We don't really NEED to spend that extra money each month. So...instead I will have to keep a better eye out for the T/A truckstops and Panera Bread stores! :)
I enjoyed catching up on everyone's news today. Looks like y'all had a busy week!

Gospel Center Update

This album is powered by BubbleShare - Add to my blog

We are still in Lebanon, PA, so we dropped by the Gospel Center today to see how things are progressing. WOW! Can you believe how much progress they have made?? I can't wait to see the finished product! Robert and Arlene Booth are doing a great job there as pastors. We enjoy visiting the services.
Keep checking in for the "finished" pictures! :)

We were able to spend some time yesterday with my brother, James and his fiancee Jennifer. We went to the Texas Roadhouse for supper and had a fun time! :) It's hard to see it, but under that scruffy beard is a nice looking young man!

Wandering Around DC

We spent the most of today driving around Washington DC for a couple of short runs. We crossed the Potomac (see picture) a couple times. At the end of the day we were able to drive up to Mom and Dad's and go out to dinner with them. :)

Winter Adventure

This album is powered by BubbleShare - Add to my blog

We are glad winter is over! I usually LOVE winter, but that's when I can curl up with a blanket and a good book and watch it snow through a big picture window! It's not so fun when you have to drive in this weather. We were blessed, though. God kept us safe! So, enjoy the pretty pictures! :)

Life in the Fast Lane

Yesterday, Kansas...Today, Indiana....Tomorrow, Maryland...Friday, Who Knows??? It's hard to realize that in 24 hours you can drive over 1300 miles! We are really enjoying this crazy life. I can't wait to see where we will go next. It would be nice to get a load going to Chicago since that's a great area for freight! Hope everyone out there is doing well. We are thankful that most of the worst winter weather seems to be over. (PA is still spurting snow, but we've managed to stay away from bad roads for several weeks now).

Witchita, KS

We spent this past weekend in Wichita. We were able to catch up with Tim's cousin Jason and his wife Samantha. We had a really fun time with them!
Tonight we are off to Maryland. We'll let you know if anything exciting happens along the way!

Lucky Me!

My sweet hubby surprised me the other day with these beautiful roses. It isn't exactly practical to get flowers while traveling all the time, but it sure is nice! :)

Ferry Ride to NY

This album is powered by BubbleShare - Add to my blog

Did you know you can take a Ferry across Lake Champlain from Vermont to New York? Not only that, but they ferried our TRUCK! We were a little worried about getting across when we saw all the ice, but the ferry runs year round and keeps a path pretty clear. It was quite an experience.

We arrived in Vermont on Monday of this week. It is very beautiful up there. Tim stopped while I was asleep and took these pictures. I did get to see some similar places before we left Vermont, though. :)

Detour in Bucksnort, TN

I'm finally updating my blog! I didn't have a digital camera, so I had to wait until I could get to Wal-Mart so I could post these pictures.
There was a traffic jam on I40 last week, and we strongly dislike sitting in traffic, sooo....we took a slight detour. We got off the interstate and used my trusty mapping program to find an alternate route. Well, in small towns like Bucksnort, TN the roads can be a bit iffy. We ended up on this lovely dirt road. We did finally make it back to the interstate (just in time to be stopped in traffic for an hour due to another back up). Before we got back to civilization we passed by Squeeze Bottom Road. How would you like to write that on all your return address labels?

Caught the Bed, Now We Can Rest!

What a week! (And it's only Wednesday!) We finally got to Shawnee, OK on Tuesday morning at 4AM. We drove around the hospital looking for the other truck we were supposed to meet. Remember now, they had an 8 hour head start! When we couldn't find them, we called dispatch and asked what was going on. Believe it or not they found out the other truck had stopped to "rest" in Tulsa, OK which is 2 hours back up the road. We had actually passed right by them! Dispatch told us to just sit and wait...the delivery time was set for 9AM and the other truck should be there by then. So, we went to sleep (zzzzz) When we got up at 9 we still did not see the other truck....at 11AM...still no truck. We called dispatch again and after doing a little research they called us back and told us the other truck had come, delivered the bed and left again. They claimed they didn't see us. You know how easily a big straight truck blends in at a hospital!! Oh well, alls well that ends well, right? We were released from the load and are going to be paid the same as if we had delivered the load ourselves (Tim never even had to open the trailer door).

Chasing A Load

We often get asked if anything interesting happens while we are out and about....well, today I have to say, "YES!" Today began as a typical day in the lives of a truckin team. We were in Williamsport, IA and we received a load offer...they asked us to dead head (drive empty) to Sprigfield, IL and recover a load that was heading to Oklahoma City, OK. It seems the truck that originally had this load had a mishap...the roof blew off their trailer! OK...we don't usually like to drive that far empty (250 miles) for such a short run (550 miles loaded), but we decided to take it. When we arrived at the place to meet the other truck we found out the load was already gone! The people repairing the truck told us that another Panther truck had come at 7:30 this morning and picked it up. Boy were we surprised! And...so was dispatch when we called and told them! They said the other truck had been told NOT to pick up the load because they did not have a lift gate and one was needed to unload it. They had us sit and wait while they tried to contact the other drivers...finally they told us the other truck (or as I like to call them the rougue truck) was not answering thier in truck computer nor their cell phones. So, what does our company tell us to do? Follow them, of course!! Now, mind you, the rougue truck has an 8 hour head start!! The company first said they were going to try to have them stop somewhere along the way to transfer the load to us...but, then they told us to just drive to the consignee and the other truck would be there waiting for us so we could help them unload. They are paying us our full rate to run 550 miles completely empty. I'm thinkin the other drivers are in a bit of hot water! You might wonder what this "hot load" of freight is....
A hospital bed!!
Whew! What a story!

Has This Ever Happened to You?

It LOOKS easy enough!

But, most things are NOT as easy as they look.

In the end, though, it's worth the effort!

IOWA HERE WE COME

Thanks so much for praying for us. We finally got a run from Aiken, SC to Altoona, IA!! That's over 1100 miles, and it delivers straight through. YEA!
